From bureaucrat to developer
Christopher Solum-Faeste is the political scientist who changed his path and started studying .net and web development. When Christopher worked with a work permit at the Swedish Migration Agency, he was inspired by a colleague to retrain and start working in IT. He is now doing an internship at iCore.
Welcome to iCore, Christopher! Tell us what you're going to do here.
- I study .net and web development at the IT University in Gothenburg. Right now I am doing an internship at iCore as part of my education. Here I work with the team developing the new portal app for iCore. I will also do my thesis at the company in the future.
How did you come to apply to iCore?
- A childhood friend works as an integration consultant at iCore. She gave me contact information for the development manager and that's the way it is. I think iCore is a good workplace to practice at when studying web development.
How has your first time at iCore been?
- Already when I started as a consultant, I received a great introduction, a supervisor who worked closely with me for the first month and good onboarding from all departments. I felt like a part of iCore even before I signed the employment contract.
What did you do before?
- Basically, I am a political scientist and have a bachelor's degree in public administration. After that I have worked at, among other things, the Correctional Service and the Migration Agency. Before studying at university, I worked at various companies in industry.
How come you are studying to become a web developer?
- Even before I decided to study political science, I was interested in IT.
Then I chose between studying political science and web development. Then a number of years passed. When I worked in an IT project at the Swedish Migration Agency, I met a person who had changed careers from bureaucrat to IT. It inspired me to dare to take the plunge and re-educate myself.

How has your first time at iCore been?
- It has been great and fun. Since I started in January, I have been well received by my colleagues and have learned a lot. I am grateful that I have been given the chance to learn more and develop at iCore.
What do you hope to bring to iCore?
- I hope to be able to contribute with my knowledge of how things work at an authority. Since I have worked at two authorities, I have an understanding of different processes in public administration. I hope that I can provide value to iCore's customers who are authorities.
